SAMPLE TESTAMENTARY GIFT CLAUSES

Bequests to benefit the League should be made to the League of Women Voters of New Jersey. The following sample clauses are appropriate for outright gifts (not contingent on the occurrence of other events and not in trust). Potential contributors should always consult an attorney when planning to make charitable gifts under their wills.

  1. Specific outright cash gift - "I devise to the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00), for said organization's general uses and purposes." (Bequests may be directed to a specific program or purpose decided upon in advance in consultation with a League representative. Such directed gifts may require the approval of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey Board.)
  2. Specific outright gift of other property - "I devise to the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, all my shares of stock in Acme, Inc. (or, my real property located in Example Township, designated as Block 1, Lot 34, and more commonly known as 987 Sample Road) for said organization's general uses and purposes."
  3. Outright gift of entire residuary estate - "I devise all the residue of my property and estate, of whatever kind and wherever located (my "residuary estate"), to the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, for its general uses and purposes."
  4. Outright gift of a portion of residuary estate - "I devise all the residue of my property and estate, of whatever kind and wherever located (my "residuary estate") as follows: A. Forty Percent (40%) thereof to the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, for its general uses and purposes."
