$ Revenue-Sharing with Local Leagues$Policy adopted 8/3/99Corporate contributions to the League of Women Voters of New Jersey Education Fund (general support) are shared 50-50 with local Leagues who assist and support state board members and state League staff in the solicitation. "When prospective donors are solicited with the assistance, support, and involvement of any local League(s), these donors will be asked to share that tax-deductible contribution with any local League(s) in their areas by either making direct contributions to the local League's Education Fund-if that League has one-or by allowing the state League to share 50 percent of the contribution with the local League(s) within whose geographic boundaries the call was made. Sharing of contributions shall continue as long as the donor remains willing. Contributions from associations or other membership entities are exempt from this revenue sharing policy. Restricted contributions or donations from private foundations will not be shared unless so designated by the donor and/or foundation. Situations may arise which are not addressed in this policy. On a case by case basis, the state board shall then negotiate with affected local Leagues to reach a mutually agreeable solution to the question of shared funds. When a prospective source for new state funding is within the geographic boundaries of a local League, prior contact shall be made with that League."
Background: The LWVNJ board of directors is responsible for developing the solicitation sources for funding the state League budget. However, many state Leagues have adopted revenue sharing formulas with their local Leagues, when new funders within a local League area are found through the help and active involvement of local Leagues. A state League board member/staff member and a local League member may make the corporate visit together, after researching the giving history and interests of that company. LWVNJ has shared contributions with local Leagues in the past on a case by case basis. The last sharing policy, adopted in 1997, offered a 20 percent share.
How to Get Started: Are you or your spouse willing to approach your corporate "community development person" on behalf of the League? Phone Executive Director, Danzey Burnham, 609-394-3303, with suggested corporate names and contacts. She will be able to pull their file, if one exists, and tell you how to proceed. Please do NOT phone corporate contacts without discussing with the LWVNJ office first. Communication is necessary! |
