  • Sandra Martinez represented the League at a press conference on "527" issue advocacy committees called by Senator Schluter, May 18.

  • Citizen's Army meeting of coalition members to assess strategy
  • Sandy Matsen attended Alliance for Action Transportation Issues Summit ,January 21
  • Campaign Finance Project meeting, February 1
  • Sandy Matsen at Cape May County LWV Citizen Army training March 1. Cape May expects to introduce ordinance in at least 10 of 16 municipalities in the county!
  • Susan Sferas at Neptune Township meeting for adoption of ban on political fundraising on public property
  • March 9 Sandy Matsen testified on open public records act before Senate Judiciary Committee
  • Natural Resources Committee met

    October & November 1999:

  • $5000 grant received to support campaign finance reform activities/Citizens Army
  • Judy Cambria's op-ed article on pre-school education printed in numerous dailies
  • LWVNJ's opposition to Ballot Question #1 (Bridge Bonds Act): letter to the editor, op-ed piece, press release, and NJN interview by Sandra Matsen
  • Judy Cambria appeared on NJN News November 1, News 12 the previous week and on several radio interviews opposing the bridge bond act
  • Pam Tisza and Lori Weiss represented the League at ChoiceNJ meeting
  • People United for Safer Handguns (PUSH) coalition met October 7. Sandy Matsen attended press conference October 22.
  • Natural Resources and Education/Fiscal Policy state committees met

    August & September 1999:

  • Letter to Senate President, Assembly Speaker and members of the Appropriations and Education committees of both houses with recommendations for changes in draft school facilities funding legislation
  • Letter to Senate President, Assembly Speaker and members of the Appropriations and Education committees of both houses about funding for school facilities-both adequacy and source of revenue as well as continued delay in proceeding with required legislation.
  • Op Ed piece written by Judith Cambria on pre-school education for three and four year olds in poor urban districts ordered by the Supreme Court submitted and published by three daily papers.

    July 1999:

  • Letter sent to Governor Whitman requesting higher priority to the recycling program in order to meet the December 31, 2000 goal set by the Department of Environmental Protection--a 65 percent recycling rate
  • Letter sent to EPA in support of proposed new automobile emission standards and lower sulfur content in fuel
  • Sandra Matsen attended two Open Public Records Act Coalition meetings
  • LWVNJ issued a statement of support for Citizens' Army Developer Disclosure Ordinance introduced in Hopewell Township by local League member Pat Tieman
  • Sandra Matsen met with Senator Singer (District 30) to discuss campaign finance reform at the state level
  • Education/Fiscal Policy Committee met

    May & June 1999:
