Gun Control AdvocacySeptember 2000 The Board agreed to co-sponsor First Monday 2000: Unite to End Gun Violence at Rutgers University Law School in Newark. First Monday is an annual initiative coordinated by the Alliance for Justice that seeks to mobilize a new generation of advocates to further the cause of justice. First Monday events take place at many law schools in the country on or near the first Monday of October, to coincide with the first day of the Supreme Court term. The theme this year is gun violence in America. A brochure is enclosed with details. First Monday will be held October 2, 2000 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Rutgers University in Newark. The League, along with other members of the People United for Safer Handguns (PUSH) coalition, supported S.2045, which requires personalized technology on all handguns sold within three years of a model being available for retail sale purposes. S.2045 passed the Senate 34 to 2 on May 18, 2000. The Assembly version, A.2535 has not had any committee hearings.
